Roots

1. You’ve lived in different places and built a career that moves between modeling, acting, music, and now performing. What has remained constant about you through all of those different versions of yourself?

I've always enjoyed sports, being at home with my animals playing Nintendo, and singing my lungs out. I love sleeping, I love the sun, and I love poetry.

2. You’ve described Texas as a place you feel deeply connected to. What is it about Texas that feels special to you?

Texas was my whole childhood. I lived there until I was 18 and moved back after years of traveling for work. Texas is absolutely a melting pot of every type of person, music, and food. I feel very lucky to experience different ways of life and learn so much about the world outside of myself. My dad was also a born and raised Texan. He’d play at saloons with his brother, singing and jamming on the guitar. His vintage country and folk playlist is the foundation of my music.

IDENTITY & PERFORMANCE

3. You’ve spoken about spending years writing and singing privately before sharing your music publicly. What finally made you comfortable being heard?

Comfortable may not be the right word, but I have certainly warmed up to sharing my brain with friends and strangers. Life goes by so quickly, and the fear cannot be more powerful than the dream.

4. What have you learned about yourself through performing that you couldn’t have learned anywhere else?

That all the years of singing and doing choreography in front of the mirror have finally paid off. Now everybody gets to see what I have been doing while I'm home alone. I've learned it can be fun to open up and emotionally fall into a performance. When I do get in the moment, the crowd and I tend to enjoy the performance the more.

PROCESS

5. Your music has a strong connection to classic country, but your broader creative world feels very contemporary. Where do those two sides meet for you?

It's tough to articulate everything that I love. My family members all had different music preferences, and I was online obsessively looking for new music. I think every song, will meet in a different place between classic and contemporary. I always want to give myself the freedom to play and bring elements throughout time into a song that I'm feeling inspired by in the moment.

6. You’ve described yourself as someone who feels things deeply. How does that sensitivity show up in the way you create?

Music is a channel for my emotions to be expressed in a debatably healthy way. I feel the scope of emotions x10 it seems. I am a Pisces, and a Cancer moon. An absolute puddle of a person.

TASTE

7. What are you instinctively drawn to, whether that’s in music, clothing, interiors, film, or people?

I am very drawn to visuals and sounds that I've never seen or heard before. I love when I see somebody’s style, and know they pulled the inspiration from inside of themselves rather than whatever is trending. I appreciate individualism; when you can see somebody's personality matches the way that they have expressed themselves, and they radiate through their outfit. How fun is that?

8. There’s something quite nostalgic about your aesthetic, but it never feels like you’re simply recreating another era. What draws you to the past, and what keeps it feeling personal rather than referential?

There is no decade I can be married to. I love the hair from the 50s, the makeup from the 60s, and the style from the 50s to the 70s. Heidi Lamarr, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, my trinity. People took their time to glam and sew what they were inspired by. There is this obsession with efficiency nowadays that has sacrificed character and beauty

9. What makes something feel timeless to you rather than simply nostalgic?

This is an interesting question. Instinctively I'll say everything that I return to is the difference between timeless and nostalgia. Cheeky songwriting, pedal steel, and analog equipment are my sonic pillars. Marcel Waves, cat eye, and a collared top are the visual.

LIFE

10. You’re building a career that asks you to be visible in many different ways. What keeps you grounded when life starts moving quickly?

I write an overwhelming amount. I bring my pen and journal everywhere to jot in poetry and doodle. The majority of my friendships I've had for over a decade, and the real ones keep you grounded. My lover is also fantastic, my angel. I am also sure to have alone time to recharge and exist in my own company.

11. Is there anything you’ve had to let go of in order to become more comfortable with the person you are now?

Stage fright was my initial hurdle for not pursuing music years ago. After committing to poetry and real estate, I immediately realized my best life would exist in music.Exposure therapy of repetitively performing has helped me enjoy being on stage. I think it's always going to be something I'll have to work at, but I’m more than happy to.

12. Who are the people in your life who have shaped you most?

I'm inspired by everyone and everything I've ever come across. Strangers, plants, animals. My parents and my siblings have made the most significant impact musically and concerning my sense of humor. My 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Collister, would dress up in a costume every Friday. She was so animated! It made class so fun, and I hope to bring that charisma to my songs and performances.
